Jun 2nd - Nice (DT to Eze)
A day-trip today to another medieval hill-top village. This time to Eze, a beautiful little place of quaint, steep, cobblestoned narrow laneways and passages.
With its oldest buildings from the early 1300’s Eze has had a bit of a chequered history as, at various times, having been under the control of the ‘Italians’, Turkey, and Spain, and only becoming French in the late 1800’s.The entire village is scenic and picturesque and we spent a couple of hours just roaming around looking into its many ‘nooks and crannies’, which was nice. Unfortunately though we weren’t the only ones, as there were hundreds of other tourists trying to do the same (should be no surprise though, we ARE on the French Riviera in June! 🙄 😊). Another downside was the number of homes that have been converted into restaurants or art galleries, it’s far too many. A bit of a shame really as it’s beginning to lose its ‘authentic’ feel. Still, we had a good trip, however yesterdays visit to St Paul would be the one recommended.
